When you find yourself locked out of your vehicle, you can begin to panic. Losing your keys or locking them inside the car can be stressful, and many people never know what to do. There are a few steps you can take to gain access to your vehicle. It’s important to know you are never truly locked out of your vehicle. Speedway Towing & Roadside Assistance will share what to do if you’re locked out of your vehicle.
Check to See if Any Car Door or Trunk is Unlocked
The very first step is remaining calm and not doing anything dramatic, like breaking the car’s window. If it appears you’re locked out of your vehicle, before panicking first check all of the doors as well as the trunk of the vehicle and see if one might be open. Often there are times when one of the other doors or trunk is unlocked. If you’re lucky enough, and a window is rolled down low enough, try to reach the lock and unlock your door. As a suggestion, if you put your key inside your vehicle for any reason roll down a window if you are loading groceries or even if you are stepping away from the vehicle for only a second.
Trace Your Steps to Find Lost Car Keys
If your vehicle is locked up tight, begin to retrace your steps and determine where your car keys might be. If you are out shopping or at work you could have dropped your keys nearby. If you are at the store or public place, ask the service center if any keys were turned in. Follow up by tracing your steps and see if dropped them while walking. If you can see that you locked your keys in the car, then your next step is obtaining your spare key. Often we don’t carry our spare key with us. If you have it in a safe place ask if someone can bring you your spare key.
