Have you ever played the game “Never Have I Ever?” Participants move from one side of the room to the other as they get to know more about the other players in the room and what their past life experiences are. If you were playing that game and someone said they had never locked their keys in the car what would you think? Would you be jealous that they have never had to experience the panic that comes in when this happens? Would you be able to go and stand next to them as someone that had never locked their keys in their car? Over the years Speedway Towing & Roadside Assistance has helped thousands of people get into their car after they locked their keys in the car. It has given us plenty of time to think about ways that you can prevent this from happening to you. We hope that some of these tips help you avoid locking your keys in the car in the future.
Follow Routine to Avoid Locking Keys in Car
One of the best ways to avoid locking your keys in the car is to have a set routine that you follow when you get out of your car. If every time you get out of your car you do the same thing you will be significantly less likely to lock your keys in the car. It does not even matter what your routine is. Just get into a rhythm and stick to it.
Leaving Car Locked While Inside
You will want to avoid locking your car when you are inside of your vehicle still. Some new cars will not allow you to lock your doors if you still have a door open, so this may be a moot point for you. If your car is not equipped with this feature you will need to get in the habit of locking your car after you are outside of your car. This will ensure that you do not get distracted preparing to get out of your car and accidentally leave your keys in a locked car.
Keep Car Keys on Lanyard
If you have a habit of locking your keys in the car or losing your keys we recommend that you put your keys on a lanyard or carabiner. When you have your keys on one of these items it makes it easier to keep your keys with you at all times. You will not be able to lock your keys in the car if they are on your physical body.
Some people have a track record of losing their keys or locking them in their car. If you are one of these people you will want to have a few options to fall back on. You may want to have a spare key that you keep in your purse, inside your home, or with a trusted friend. Having a spare key already set in place there will not be as big of an issue if you find that you have locked your keys in the car.
